Financial Peace
One of the things that is vital to my ongoing journey back from the edge is my coming to terms with my tendency towa
rd financial mismanagement. That is why I have enjoyed Dave Ramsey’s work so much. He is on my local radio station from 9 to midnight (he’s live from 2-5pm in some markets).
This is what his website says about Dave:
Dave Ramsey, a personal money management expert, is an extremely popular national radio personality, and author of the New York Times best-sellers The Total Money Makeover, Financial Peace and More Than Enough. Ramsey added television host to his title in 2007 when “The Dave Ramsey Show” on Fox Business Network debuted nationally.
Ramsey knows first-hand what financial peace means in his own life – living a true rags-to-riches-to-rags-to-riches story. By age 26, he had established a $4 million real estate portfolio, only to lose it by age 30. He has since rebuilt his financial life and now devotes himself full time to helping ordinary people understand the forces behind their financial distress and how to set things right. He resides with his wife, Sharon, and their three children in Nashville, Tennessee.
He also runs something called Financial Peace University (FPU) where his principles for getting out of debt are put forward. I haven’t been able to determine the cost of the live presentations, but they are often run by local churches. you can go to this part of the website for more information. An online version is offered which starts at $99 (including books) If you want to learn more about them, you can go to the FPU section of his website and search for classes in your area. When I did so, a local church came up which was offering free orientation classes to people who are considering joining the classes.
I still have not overcome my tendency to spend too much. I do know that when my finances are in order I feel my life is in order. It is a great feeling of peace.
